Leaving Bear Lake

The sun sets earlier on Bear Lake than in the Idaho towns where we stayed, and it did a marvelous job.

While searching for a good spot for sunset photos I just had to capture these:

It seems hollyhocks and raspberries are the symbols of the area - the flowers were everywhere and all the fast food venues offered Raspberry Shakes.  We didn't try one since the lines were way too long.

As we left Bear Lake the morning light showed the aqua color we had read about.  The color comes from the calcium carbonate left by the glaciers eons ago.  (Aren't TUMS calcium carbonate?)

The flat road along the lake changed quickly to a steep climb and then flattened out with the straightest road we have seen in over 5000 miles.

The straight road went for a few miles and we were in Wyoming!  Back to curvy roads climbing again into mountains.
